Lakes and Watersports

The area has a number of lakes where you can swim and enjoy a variety of water-sports. The Lac de Serre Ponçon at Savines le Lac , only 10 miles away from Tallard has canoeing, kayaking, wake-boarding, kite-surfing and waterskiing available.

Also at Embrun, 28 miles away, many use the sailing school where the instructors are friendly and helpful. Canoeing and rafting is also available on the River Durance or the River Ubaye with RCKN and Sud Rafting

Nearer to Tallard, just 5 miles away, there is the lake at Pelleautier where one can swim, canoe or take a leisurely ride on the pedalos. Besides swimming in these lakes you may choose to do a spot of fishing and permits may easily be bought at the local tourist office. In the village of Tallard there is the local swimming pool with snack bar and play area for children.

Walking/Cycling

Mountain Bike

There are numerous routes for walking and cycling. At the tourist office in Tallard there are lots of guides detailing the length, difficulty (routes are colour-coded) and how long it may take to do the route. Routes are well marked with signposts keeping you on track. Mountain bikes can be hired.

 

Climbing

One of the premier spots for climbing is only 26 miles away at Orpierre. It is famous for its dramatic setting and offers a huge number of protected climbs at all levels. Equipment and local instructors can be found on website.

Via Ferrata

Via Ferrata

There are several Via Ferratas in the area, one of which is the Motte du Caire, 16 miles away. The tourist office at The Grande Fistoire, will supply all the equipment and guides to make you feel safe and secure.

 

 

Skiing

16 miles away there is skiing at Joue de Loup. A small, purpose built resort situated between Grenoble and Gap which retains a real village atmosphere. It is family orientated, but yet remains un-crowded and has an extensive ski area offering good skiing for intermediate and beginner skiers and also boasts a snow park.

Ski

At Super Devoluy (linked to Joue de Loup by lift) the ski area comprises over 100 kilometres of signed runs in a 1500m to 2500m altitude band: 16 green, 23 blue, 16 red and 5 black. It has 25 lifts. Snowboarders are well catered for with a dedicated Surf Zone Snowpark, a Free Ride zone and a Boarder cross-country run. For the more experienced skier, there are plenty of off piste runs available. Cross country skiing consists of 80km of runs dispatched onto 17 circles through the beautiful and charming forest areas of the Southern Alps.
